I've tried searching but have had limited success. I've mostly run into dead links and links that only show the vehicle's model, transmission, and origin. I'm looking at buying a car online tomorrow and I'd like to know if it's got the sports package.

all you can get with the vin is what you are finding. What year is it? Got a link? There are several ways to tell if it has sport package by looking at itdepending on what year it is.

 

17 digits in the VIN

1-w for country of origin Germany
2 -A for MFG - Audi
3- U For Vehicle type - Passenger
4- Series - varies with model year
5- Engine - varies with model year
6- restraint system - varies with model year
7-8 - model 8D - A4,S4
9 - Check digit 0-9 or X, calculated by NHTSA
10 - Model Year T-1996, V-1997, W-1998, X-1999, Y-2000, 1-2001
11 - Assembly plant - A-Ingolstadt , germany N-Neckarlsulm, Germany
12-17 Serial #

Ok - you can't tell with the VIN alone - as onepoint8tee said you can't tell options from this list. in the trunk - by the spare (at least it is in mine) is a lable with a bunch of info on it - we would need those # to tell you what kind of suspension it has. not sure how to tell other stuff........cold weather package etc.

 

Your local audi dealer can tell you with the vin.

 

If its a 96-01 its a sport if it has red shocks, 16 inch wheels

Sport steering wheel was an option on non sport models.

 

Thanks for the replies guys. I actually don't have any pics of the car, so I can't tell by looking at it. It's scheduled to go through at an auction tomorrow and all I have to go off is the VIN. My boss is planning on bidding on it for me, but I don't want to go too high on it if it doesn't have the sport package. I'll try calling an Audi dealer tomorrow to see if they can tell me if it's got the sports package.

 

You need to talk to the parts department, they have all the answers you need.
