there is hope for our GT28Rs turbos

there is hope for our GT28Rs turbos
This is what Honeywell/Garett sent me when I asked them about a rebuild on ym GT28RS..
Nicholas,
To make the turbo good as new, you would install a new CHRA which has
new
wheels, bearings, and seals. It's a Garrett factory balanced unit that
you
can bolt on to existing end housings when you remove the old CHRA.
This will
also minimize downtime. Let us know if you need one. Thanks!

RE: there is hope for our GT28Rs turbos
here is the deal APR dose something to the wastegate, so they charge 2400 for a new turbo and if you buy a new GT38RS from honeywell its only $1150, so even ifs it $800 its still going to be cheaper then APR's new turbo, im waiting for an emial back from Honeywell im guessing 300-700 but its worth it because they just send out the new center and you replace it leaving the wastegate untouched

this is the price email i got...
You may consider the 71R since cost difference is small.

this is what they sent me, looks like i will go with the 71R
Good question Nicholas,
If we redo your GT28RS, the only things we reuse on it are the two end
housings, the entire internals of the turbo is new.
If we upgrade to GT2871R, the exhaust housing from the 28RS will be
reused
and the rest of the 2871R turbo is new. The 2871R and 28RS share the
same
turbine side so the turbine housing is the same. We would use the
turbine
housing since it has no effect on reliability or performance and put it
on
the rest of the brand new 2871R.
If want to go 100% brand new (which we don't know why you would), the
cost is
$1175.
Hope this helps.
BTW, quoted cost includes the assembly/disassembly done at our facility
so
when you get the turbo, it's ready to run.
I love APR but there is nothing better then going right to the sourse..

RE: there is hope for our GT28Rs turbos
like i stated at audizine its not 1400 for a new turbo from apr its 1800-2200, all they change is the spring in the wastegate which wont get touched when they do the chra, and that is only $750. 869 gets me the 71r which is 1175 new, so im going to be saving between 300 and 1200, and the downtime is only 7-10 days.. the car will be totally apart at that point because of the rebuild.. and i bought the car built, and have a better tubo.. its not even bad, I just figure im bringing everything else back to new i might as well do the turbo as well because i dont know how much abuse the last owner put it through, would rather spend the moeny all at once then have something go wrong..
