Default Swimming in transmission fluid...

So my tranny pan got punctured thanks to my car being so low (and some car part in the road) and so I'm going to have it welded back up and reinfornced. When I was taking it off I got daused pretty good as apparently there was plenty of fluid left in the pan. Anyways, I need new fluid, and I was wondering about buying it online, (I can't get it for a 1996 a4 at regular stores and there's no Audi dealer in my county). Prices for A/T fluid (that is what I want, right?) are about $20 shipped online, which seems cheap considering the description is "1-liter /12 Per Case." Does this mean I'm getting 12 liters? How much do I need to refill the system once I get the pan back on and where do I fill it up? Thanks for any help.

Nope - that would be $20 a liter.

So is a liter enough to fill up my system? Where do I fill it back up?

You're kidding right? An automatic trans takes a TON of fluid.

^ looks like you need 9 liters

Hey, clearly I've never messed with this b4, or I wouldn't be asking about it. So does it take 6 or 9 liters to fill? Where do I fill it? And does it have to be exact?

According to the manual it takes 2.6 liters when you change the transmission fluid and 9L if you fill from empty.

I just did mine and I draind 3.25L out of it. I refilled the same amount back.

I would think you need 9L to refill and you will need to do it the Audi way.

BTW, for those who know. I was wondering. Since I could only drain 3.25L of fluid out where is the rest of the5.75L is hiding? Surely not in the pan. It's not deep enough.

Did anyone actually pull 9L out for a complete re-fill?

It should be like any other automatic transmission. The rest of the fluid resides in the torque converter.

So how do you get it out of the TC if you want to do a complete replacement?
