supercharged 2.8
hey I just got my computer fixed so i haven't been on audiforums in a couple months, but it's good to be back:-). I have a b5 2.8 and I want to supercharge it in the near future. If anyone has done so please reply and let me know how it turned out and if it was worth the money.
thanks

5,000 dollars is alot of money, but for 295bhp I think I'd be willing to shell it out if i had it. A slighty used kit would probably be a better investment...but they're harder to find because you'd need to find someone selling theirs on like www.scaudi.com

RE: supercharged 2.8
The PES seems to give pretty good gains, I've heard a few different numbers. I've been told you can get 310 from the kit, but no lower than 295. Either way, our slow *** 2.8's will fly. My buddy has about 4 months left at UTI. When he gets done and given I have enough cash I think we're going to supercharge my car. We're going to pick up a used super from somewhere, have a custom manifold built (that's the only really difficult part), change the valve springs, probably the cam, I'll probably need a new hood or some sort of modification to it if the super won't fit under it, I'll need a TipChip so my tranny can handle the power and even then autos still blow, and maybe a couple other things to ensure everything will run smoothly and not explode. I'm thinking we can do all that for $2-3K and put out 330 HP, but it's all speculation as it's hard to predict what kind of horsepower numbers a bunch of aftermarket parts will give.
If you must go with a kit, go with PES. Everything is there, everything is tested and proven to work on the car. My project, on the other hand, will put my car into project car status. I'll have to get something else to drive to work as it may be in a shop for a couple weeks at the least to get it running correctly.

RE: supercharged 2.8
Ok lets clear up some point here and yes I have a 97 2.8Q SC. The figures PES quote are not every day figures, the average car will get around 275bhp. The 290bhp is for a car running on race fuel and has never been replicated on a road car. 310bhp is for the 3.0 A4 and as for the trip chip it will only allow the trans to handle the power better not allow you to run more. The best kit for the 2.8 cars to get more reliable power is the G1 kit which will allow you to fit an FMIC and a smaller pulley although you can fit a smaller pulley to the G2 kits but no FMIC as of yet.

RE: supercharged 2.8
if your going totally custom why not just get a centrifical supercharger and run it through an fmic then into the stock intake...no need for a different hood or a custom intake, just fabbing up a mount for the supercharger and selecting the right pully size and all the other things like injectors valvebody and all the supporting valvetrain mods
