Default stock CD player "Error 2" I think the laser is dirty, but how to clean?

So it's kind of getting worse and worse at finding a first track to start off a CD, almost 50/50 chance of me pumping the next track button every other second as I hear the cd rotating while it searches for Track 1. Sometimes it starts on track 2 or 5 or any random number, but then I can skip back to Track 1 and it can find it now... strange. It's also skipping a lot more than usual, even on new CDs.
I wanted to use one of those CD cleaners that's basically a CD with little brushes on it that wipes the laser lens like from Circuit City, but is that safe to use in the 6 disc changer? If it accidently gets shuffled will it get stuck inside and ruin me?
Any knowledge on "Error 2" would be much appreciated, thanks.

It's in my 2003 A4 if that helps! I posted this under "Electronics" first but figured you guys would get to this easier, thanks!
