We just replaced the speed sensor so I know thats working. It usualy works when I first start the car in the morning, then after it gets warmed up she stops working. From what I understand alot of the times the clusters go bad, If I wanna replace the cluster do I have to replace the whole gauge set?

 

The cluster gets the vehicle speed from all four ABS wheel speed sensors, not the engine speed sensor. Check the brake electronics module for faults.
If there aren't any faults either use a VAG COM to do a gauge sweep or take it to the dealer to verify the cluster is malfunctioning.

Sounds like one of the ABS senors has broken down if you have access to VAG this can be tested. Go into
brakes 03

this will display the readouts of the ABS sensors for all four wheels, then just drive the car while monitoring the read outs and see if any are diffrent to the rest. If so the ABS sensor requires replacment.

 

ok are they normally easy fix?

 

O also when it pops the check engine on the code is P401 Which is Speedometer Sensor weve already replaced it 2 times they start workin for 2-3 weeks, then they are iffy and work when they want
