Default SOON PLZ: GIAC ECU question.

If I want to buy someone elses GIAC chipped ECU and the part number for theres doesn't match the one I currently have in my car, will his ECU work in my car?

I called a GIAC dealer today and he even went so far to say that he tried to swap ECU's wih his and his friends GTI. They were the exact same car and same part number on the ECU and it still didn't work becuase the VIN was encoded in the ECU. I thought that sounded a bit BSish but I have now clue. SO PLEASE pros help me out here!

Well that is lame, I am going to have a REAL tough time trying to find a used GIAC ECU for my car then. Becuase my part number ends in a "C" and it seems like any (pretty much all) ECU's I come across are "P" ones. :sigh:[]

Maybe it wouldn't hurt my car to put a P in it then!! lol

I don't know...

I didn't really want to send my ECU in and pay $500. It would be nice to have a whole ECU so I could pawn off my stock one.

So my car wouldn't start if I put a "P" ECU in? Or would it just completely muck everything up?

Well the guy that is selling it says that someone on this forum said they did the same thing and his car worked fine. He said since he doesn't know 100% for sure he can't gaurantee anything. What do you guys think?

All I REALLY need to know for sure is COULD THIS MESS UP MY CAR?

If not maybe I should give it a try, if my car doesn't turn on or whatever I can always resell it.

I need to know soon though becuase the auciton ends in about 5 hours. Thank you!

I'm sure. Audi would not design different ECU's for the same exact car, something is different.
