aright... as long as u guys tell me that the amp is ok ill b happy. bc thats gotta stay. the sub is wats up in the air. Theoretically, the brand of sub should not matter all that much with the brand of amp as long as the wattage matches right? Like I said, im not looking to blow the windows out... just a little thump.

only the top mtx sub can handle the 800 watt amp. Im leaning towards infinity or pioneer... how do u guys feel about those being hooked up to my amp?? Also, is it good for the sub to be able to handle a little more than the amps peak output... or is it better to match exactly??

And just because your amp says its 800w it really doesn’t mean its putting out that much, my friends 1000w Sony amp pushed the same kicker subs about half as much as my 600w jbl and my amp is old nothing fancy but its a good solid amp. I also agree that MTX is a really good brand for the money or you can look in to something like Elemental designs or image dynamics there relatively small companies but there subs kick *** and are not too expensive.

Sony (and any poor quality brand amp, for that matter) will rate their amps with peak wattage, rather than RMS. RMS wattage is what the amp can run at a consistent rate. Peak watts is a useless statistic, except for attracting naive or new people in car audio to that amp.

^^^^^ EXactly

here's your answer: Sony states their maximum output at say... 800 watts. WHO CARES... it's not that number that counts, look for the RMS rating thats the # that matters. Any amp that runs you closer to $.50 to $.75 a watt Maximum Output its going to be a good amp... for instance the MTX 8100D class amp, 775 watts mono'd PEAK WATTAGE for $500;...... for example, thats a good amp

the subs distort and they lie about their wattage output and handling.... sony can suck my *****......

Go with a JL W6 (less power hungry than the W7) with an amp that outputs around 300-500 RMS and that **** will pound... if thats what you're going for,,,, just make sure to put it in a SEALED box so it sounds clean
