Was it leaking back there?
I should check that on mine tonight.

Look behind the engine, in the space between the firewall and the engine, near the middle. There is a coolant hose there that may leak, coming out of the engine to the heater core and all.
Its closer to the cabin, which may be why you are smelling AF, if its leaking there. Just one more area to inspect for leakage. It may be dripping onto the engine/frame, and a slow leak, so you would not see any puddle, and levels would not go down very fast.
Good pic of the area, showing a leak at the coolant temperature sensor vertical support.

Hmmm.

This "anti-freeze smell" in the cabin just started happening to me after aggressive driving about a week ago.

I'll have to check this out.

I raced a black Miata with race stripes, a roll-cage, and a liense plate that said MINI VPR yesterday afternoon on a wide open stretch of toll road.

Neither one of us could pull away all the way up to 120mph and he waved it off.
After I said bye and went my own way, I started to smell the anti-freeze and it continued for about 10 minutes are so.

By the time I got it home and in the garage, it had softened up and I could only smell it when I stuck my head in near the coolant tank.

Weird.

I am not very familiar with the 3.0 engine but according to this diagram, it looks like you have 2 of these sensors. (pic from a 2002 B6 A4 3.0)

ACETREBO your awesome, how do you know so much
LOL, thanks.

Mostly from personal experience, I had a similar very slow leak back there, so when I read the post it sounded like a possibility. Also, reading a lot of posts kind of prepares you for troubleshooting the common problems.

I have an 05 B6 andit was leaking also. Mine is still covered by the factory warranty but when I took it in for service, I was told that it was caused by acommon issue (not sure what it was).It was leaking fast andI was always smelling that lovely Dex-Cool odor. Maybe you could call a local Audi service center and they might be able to give you some info.
