Just finished installing my Thule Ski Rack. Overall, the installation was not that difficult, but having a 2nd person to help you fit the rack to the car makes all the difference. Without the wind deflector, you can drive up to about 60mph before you start to notice a noise difference in the cab. I don't know if I want to spend the extra 60 bucks on one, I don't know what kind of difference it will make. The rack and the fit kit cost me $428.00 from REI.com

I've got a big ski vacation coming up here in the next week, headed off to Smither's in British Columbia.

What instalation instructions did you use to put the rack on? I have the same rack that came from my volvo that I'm trying to put on my S4. I have the right fit kit 249, but the 36 5/8 (930mm) front, 35 1/8 (890mm) seems to narrow for my 2004 S4.

 

you should invest in a fairing. they look great in my opinion.

Heh, well this post was from a while ago. The fit kit used on my A4 was 2114, or something like that. I went to Thule.com, and looked it up using their program. I think it's the same for both the A4 and S4 02-05. I don't recgonize "249", but could be something different for your S4. Both of my bars were the same length... I only used the instructions for putting the foot assembly together. Then, when it came time to get the bars in the right position, I just had my roomate help me out, and we pulled and pushed till they looked even, and tightened everything down. Looked great with 4 pairs of ski's on it!

 

Yea, it was an extra $60, and it said that it would reduce wind noise at high speed... I was 100+mph on that trip thru Canada at times, and I couldn't hear a thing from the ski rack, so I didn't buy one. I wanted to test it to see if I really needed it. It would make it look better, but my Atomic ski's look good enough!

 

Hey Karl, could you take a pic of the clips which attach to the feet? I was given a set of Thule clips which were "from an newer audi" and want to make sure they are the right ones before I purchase the feet and rails...

I'd appreciate it!
