car is a 01 a4 1.8t.. auto... anyway, I have this problem where the car will die, and wont start back up. It seems like it wont tell the tranny the brake switch is engadged. Normally when i start my car i have to put my foot on the brake to move thru the gears. But when it cuts out i can move thru them without the brake depressed.

Here is where the silver box comes in. Its underneath the driver's side windsheild wiper cowl cover. If i hit that real hard it will let the car crank and run, but it will shut off.. shortly after. I was wondering what this box is? It has "Bosch" , audi rings, and 9 digit code with CH at the end, Please help me.

 

that would be your ecu.. now stop hitting it

Like when im driving the car will turn off, flash the OIL light even tho its full of oil than turn it self back on when im in D (this happens withing 2 seconds) and then it wont change gears. It will stay in whatever gear it was in when it turned off which is usually 4 or 5

 

oh and i get a CEL code P0600 - Serial Comm Link Malfunction.. whats that?

 

sounds like something connected to the ecu is loose, if you hit it and it works

 

When I read through this thread I laughed out loud.... my room mate thinks I am crazy for laughing at a computer screen...

 

well **** works when you rage on it.. :P

 

The ECU might be loose. Open the box and be gentle with the chip.

 

Open up the black protector box and check the connections to the ECU
