Hey everybody I own a 98 A4 1.8T manual tranny. The other day while driving my driver side impact airbag deployed!!! Luckily i didn't get startled and crashed, that would've been bad. but does anyone know WHY this would happen? it was only that airbag that got deployed and also my seatbelt is jammed and i can't get it loose. I'm scared that all the other airbags might deploy also, so if anyone can help thanks!!

 

call Audi of America right away.. where did you purchase your car? did you do a carfax on it? it could be a few different things.. but if you havent ran a carfax yet, run one immediately.. to see if the car was wrecked before and put backtogether with a faulty airbag sensor or something along those lines.. if it hasnt been wrecked, Audi might have to fit the bill on that one

 

i bought it used, but before i did i ran the vin and it came out clean.. i also checked on old recalls which audi had in the years and none have to do with the airbags... another question: how can i check if the recalls where done with my car? and if they weren't can i still go to audi to have the problems replaced for free?

 

to tell if the recalls have been done u have to call an audi dealer and give them ur vin becasue all recall work is recorded thier data base, and most likely ur gonna have to replace the seat belt now

 

do you think audi should cover that if it was a manufactorer defect or a normal "wear and tear"??

 

That isn't wear and tear. That is a safety problem. Call Audi and also make a report ot the national highway safety administration. they keep track of safety issues on cars and if there seems to be a signal of a recurrent problem in a model, they can force a recall.

 

That would cause me crash fo sho!

 

the seat belt problem is becasue of the tensioners that go off in the event of a wreck... oh and if you have to pay to replace the airbags i have some side ones ill sell you

 

No doubt man, glad ur ok. I woulda crashed.... I mean what if u were on highway doing 65 and it opened up. Thats ur life man. Call them dude.

 

dude the thing is i was driving on the highway going about 70... so i am lucky that i stayed calm..
