Good info, I think I'd rather master left foot braking

the whole point of heel toe is that you can not only match up the revs with the tires, you can be on the accelarator longer between each corner.

if you have to cluch in with your left and match the revs with your right, that means that you have to cluch in earlier before the corner to be able to get back on the brakes with the cluch engaged.

so, in-fact, heel toe is a better way to keep your cornering speeds up, and not destroy your cluch at the same time.

i was just wondering if anybody had a different, better technique..

btw.... heel toe comes from japan, since they have such small feet, they turn the foot completly sideways to be able to control their revs and slow down at the same time. they really do use ONLY their heel and toe.

That is NOT why its called heel-toe...its cuz when you race...if you;re going at like 120mpoh...braking and gas using the ball of foot on the brake and right side on gas method will get you nowhere but in a wall..your foot willl slip off the pedals....instead...youHEEL-TOE...which is when you pivot your foot and you use your HEEL on the gas..and your toes on the brake...so basically your foot is at a 90 degree andgle with your pedals...

yea, the technique you use should be referred to as 'toe and toe' cuz 'heel and toe' you're pressing the break with the ball of your foot and twisting your foot counter-clockwise so you can hit the gas with your heel. I'm actually trying to 'master' it myself....
I noticed with audis (maybe german cars in general) the gas pedal is placed lower so it's harder than japanese cars...
this is where sports pedals come into play.. I remember seeing one with a tab on the break pedal that sticks out to the right so you can use it when you heel and toe... also, if you attach the new gas pedal on top of the stock one
and replace the break pedal, it'll be much easier to heel-toe or even toe-toe probably...
hope this helps...

I have an '01 1.8tq and it's deff. tougher to do than in my pop's 330ci but it's still do-able. It's just easier to rev match quickly and judge turns sooner if possible. hard braking into corners helps with passing but taking the turn smoothly will prob. give you better lap times

because "inside-ball-of-foot-and-outer-middle-portion-of-foot-shift" is harder to say.

All cars have tires, so it's applicable to all cars.
Hilarious!

Good information on the follow-ups.
I've tried both 'Heel - Toe' and "inside-ball-of-foot-and-outer-middle-portion-of-foot-shift" and neither seems easy to master. DBW might make it more difficult, and pedal position absolutely makes H-T difficult.

i was taught heel and toeing by a friend of mine (who is a race car driver) and his dad (who is a race car driver). it takes a long time to master. took me about 1 year of trying. upgrade your petals in the car so you can make sure you can reach the gas from the break. all the info in here is correct it is used in racing but is good for street driving too. just getting your engine to the same rpm's it would be @ when in that gear. just keep trying. and think about where the rpm's would be @ when in the gear you are downshifting into @ the speed you are @.
