Default Shaking car.

I got a 03 Audi A4 Quattro and it starts shaking when it’s on drive gear and not on parking. Usually will do after driving for a few minutes. Anybody have an idea what I could be?? HELP Please!!

Hi jcarx
Is the oil in the Quattro box ok
Are the drive shafts joints ok from the gear box 4x4 unit to the axles ok ...no play at the joints

Rubber mounts engine /gear box.....split or rubbing metal to metal ?

Then there is the flywheel/ torque converter if auto.....bolt loose

sorry just thinking out loud (flywheel/torque converter etc)

As for Quattro box
Some one I know has a TT Quattro and the box on that has to have its oil changed inc filter every 10,000 or 20,000 miles.
Here in the UK I was thinking is it the same? look in your hand book
and I think it may be an AUDI job rather than diy

sorry for any confusion

so I guess its a tip/automatic?? any fault codes/CEL it sounds like the rpm is dropping too low in drive, perhaps a relay or fuse failed on the idle up system, have some one check it out

Yeah it’s a Tip . no fault codes. the RPM seem ok
The car will shake/vibrate more when it’s moving vs. when it’s stopped. But will work perfect for the first ~5 miles then it will shake whenever I press the gas (when the car is moving). Almost like it needs to heat up to start shaking/vibrating. Could it be a transmission oil issue?

Thanks

It could, or it could be the engine. Check for codes with a scanner or Vagcom. Use the vagcom locator that is in the helpful links section to see if there is someone near you who will read the codes for you. If you are in the US autozone will pull the codes for free. Post them back here.

Does it shake when it is stopped? May not be the transmission but the engine. Does it shake when the car is warm but stopped and in neutral?

It is difficult to check the transmission fluid level without having the car on a lift as it has to be checked underneath. Could be a bad coil pack failing.

Sounds good. I will stop by an Autozone later today.
Yeah the car will shake when it’s stopped. The car will only shake/vibrate when in drive (foot on brake). It will stop when I put it in neutral.
It seems worse in hot weather vs. cool mornings.

Thanks david9999
