RPM Drops

RE: RPM Drops
Hey Maverick.
I had a similar problem, pretty much the same problem, but while I was stopping the RPM was jumping---going low and then back to its original spot. Once I started to accelerate I had no problems. I took it to AUDI and they replaced the IGNITION COILS (#2 AND #5 to be exact).
You might want to tell the guys that are working on your car to check that out.
Hope that helps

It's called a throttle body. And yes the inside pieces that swivel open are called the throttle butterflies. One for low rpms and one for high (12V engine at least).

What do you call it over there?

Hey OWDI,
Thankx... I'll tell them. The strange thing is they are Audi dealer and they are in touch with Audi factory and they have not been able to figure out the problem.
I have a question some what similar... as a general rule how do dealer charge -- should they be charging on all the diagnoses they are doing but are not successful -- or just for the part which they change(once the problem is found) and labor.
Thanks,

Maverick.
Tell you the truth..usually audi charges me a for a diagnostic and then call me on my cell and tell me what the problem is...They tell me this is how much it will cost to fix it...i say go ahead...if they didnt fix the problem then i would go back and say u didnt fix the problem....the only problem is they can always say "no" its also this NEW problem and we have to fix that as well...so ur kind of in a jam on that one

RE: RPM Drops
I drive a 97 A4 2.8. I had a problem with my RPM's jumping and the car was having problems starting on cold days after I had driven it for a while. I changed the engine coolant temperature sensor two months ago and I have not had a problem since. It cost $25.
