Where are you located?

Do NOT "bolt in" a roll cage. If you do that it may as well not be there. A real roll cage is going to have reinforcement plates welded into the areas that may absolbe the impact so the bars don't just push through the body of the car. You can get a REAL custom roll cage done at a proper race shop for under 3k

Yeah, those bolt in ones aren't roll cages. They are just fancy roll bars and anchor points for your harnesses.

niiceee, yeah dude, learn for my mistake, save your oilpan, get a skidplate lol, and yeah as ocadam said www.autopowerindustries.com give them a call tell them youn need the bar, for about $480 they will make it in about 4 weeks, maybe less, i did a rush order for an extra $95 and they got it done in 1 week, then it is about $150 to ship it if you dont live close enough to pickup yourself.

...it becomes a cage once you weld it to the body like mine.

i custom rollcage could cost you $2-3k depending on how elaborate it is. But i think some of the small rally events you might not even need them. They are just small fields that they run a course on. I could be wrong, which i usually am
If it's rallycross with the SCCA your refering to then no you are not required to have a rollcage, but a skid plate would be a very good idea. They are small enough events that you will not reach high enough speeds to need one. Most rallyx events i've been to you will barely get out of third gear. Though i have seen a few cars almost roll over. I've gone up on two wheels. One car went far enough up I could see the entire underside of the car. But that was an unusually large and fast track at the raceway in Nashville.

DO NOT buy a premade rollcage if you are being serious about it. spend the extra money and have one custom made and welded in.
Thanks, i was hoping i wasnt crazy.

If you can weld, a prefabbed one should be a great way to start and save you money if the price for them is decent.

Yeah, when you weld it in, but, if it's just one of those 4 point bolt in ones, it's still just a roll bar with some extra supports. Welding is goooood

If you have a B5 A4 then here is a front skid plate I found. Has anyone had any experience with these? I'm thinking about getting one myself.

I think I'm going to go ahead and order one of these plates after I do my performance mods in January/Febuary. I'll let everyone know what I think about it. I'll probably do a rallycross event before I report back how well it works.
