Just bought an 04 1.8t Quattro, and looking for info on rims sizes. I want to do a staggered fitment 18x8 front, 18x9 or 10 rear, heard of problem with the ecu in doing astaggered fittment but all my resourcessay its a rumor but cant tell me if i'll have problems. Staggered setups induce more understeer with a stock suspension - the amount of change will depend on the difference in width. This can be dailed out somewhat by modifying camber and rear spring and shock rates. It can also be affected somewhat by using spacers to change the width of the front track as well. You can also add a larger rear sway bar to induce more oversteer as well. If you opt for the staggered setup then you will need to play with your suspension setup to see what you like and how it affect your cars handling.

they actuallytold me it may affect the all wheel drive and may make the car only run on minimal boost due to entering a "protection mode"

Youwill have a problem if you use different diameter wheels like 18s with 19s because the wheels with turn at differnt speeds but not with the difference in widths. you should have no problems as far as I know.

yeah - width will only cause what I mention above. Its a change in diameter that will cause quattro problems. That includes having same size rims but different tire sizes.

Yeah different profile tires like 215/40/18 fronts with 235/45/18 rears. Yeah I forgot about that possibility

yeah thatl cause some problems thats what "they" were talkin bout I would put 225/35/18s in front that would keep you close to stock overall diameter too.

either that er change the rear to 245/40/18s but it sound like you already bought the tires so the fronts would be cheaper to replace. thats about the only solution I can think of, hope helps lata
