Replace CD deck but keep front cover?
So I love the look of my CD player in my '01 A4 1.8t, however it won't play CD-RW's, and of course MP3's. Is it possible to replace the CD player with a newer one but keep the front cover the same?

idk if the new audi decks play mp3 or cdr but buying one of these is gonna be the only way you will be able to change your deck and keep a stock look.

Mt stock changer played most cd-r's. I now have a Sony headunit in it's place. I had to keep the surrounding trim around the deck, but there was a big gap where the stock cd player sat. I took my in-box from my desk at work since the texture was the same as audi's interior, cut it to size by using a vertical mill, and epoxied it to the stock surrounding trim. It came out really clean and flush.

You can get adapters (though expensive) that would allow you to run an aftermarket CD changer (ie: alpine). This would allow you to play CD-R's for sure, and (depending on model), play mp3's.

Oh yes, nothing likes CD-RW's... CD-R's are the way to go. MP3's however, it will NOT play...
unless you're talking about mp3's that you've converted to .wav's and put on a CD... but that isn't an mp3 CD. Mp3 CD's can hold like 150 songs.
