Default Red color in Oil

Guys, I am new to the forum. We bought my wife a 2003 1.8T quattro last spring. Today, I was changing the oil(not the for the first time). I am using Castrol Full Synthetic. After I changed it, I wanted to check the oil level. I noticed there was some red "stuff" on the dip stick. I continued to check it and the red stuff continued to show up. What could this possible be?

What color is the stock antifreeze? Any chance there is an issue with a head gasket or a warped head?

Thanks in advance. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Aaron

Default

Just to bring anybody that read my original post up to speed. I changed my oil again last night just to check it out. The oil looked fine...there was nothing red colored in it. With the oil pan empty, I checked my dipstick several times and I was still getting something red on it. I dumped some of the used oil(only a week old) down through the dipstick tube and also poured it into the engine cap and let it run down through and into my oil pan. After doing this a few times, I put the plug back and filled it back up with oil and everything appears to be fine.

It may have been sludge that was stuck in the bottom of the dipstick tube.
