Rear wheel bearing OUT, don't want to go to STEALERSHIP!
how do I go about replacing my rear wheel bearings without going through the stealership????? They want to charge me $700 to replace both my rear wheel bearings because there is a so called "tool" that only they have. What is this "tool" and how do I go about getting it? All the mechanics in my area (MD) can't fix it because of this. PLEASE HELP!! I've had 2 mechanics look over my car and both have told me they can't help me because they can't get the hub off.

Lucky you, they were charging me $500 each wheel, take it to NTB, cost me only 175 labor and 65 for a meyle original bearing. special tool my @$$, theyre just gonna hammer it out and use a press to get the new one in

RE: Rear wheel bearing OUT, don't want to go to STEALERSHIP!
thanks guys, I am taking it to get worked on this week. The quote I got was from a Audi dealer in Baltimore becuase everyone I talked to around my area didn't have equipment to do the job. They charged $90 an hour labor and said it took 6 hrs to do both wheels! So I'll just tell the mechanic about that 14 mm allen key and be done with it. I hear you have to set the suspension too? Has anyone ever heard anything about that? Can't a local mechanic just do it with the 14 mm allen wrench? instead of spending $700 at a dealership?
Thanks
