'99.5 30v 2.8 Quattro Tip and I chose it over a '00 1.8T Quattro MT.

When I drove the 1.8T, it was dead in the bottom end and didn't pull like I expected it to.
When I drove the 2.8, I felt the back of my seat and I didn't have to wait for anything to spool.

I wanted something that was quick out of the box w/o needing mods, classy, reliable, fun to drive and AWD. The 2.8 Quattro fit the bill.

I have a 2.8 mannual quattro and its great. Above 4500k rpm the engine has this muscley torquey growl - its fantastic.

only negative is that it guzzles gas under 'fast' but not insane city driving. I use just under 15L/ 100km !

You may as well get a 2.8 as well since it will probably have more options for pretty much the same price as a 1.8slow
+1 on the V6 growl ... Interesting to see your fuel economy w/ the MT. I'm tip and I avg 12L/100km
