anyone that has a 2.8 and talks about it being faster than a chipped 1.8t is lying. i think that all the 2.8 owners are just jealous of the 1.8t. i drive with a ton of other A4's from time to time.. one stock 2.8 can not come even close to me. another 2.8 with intake and exhaust is pretty much in the same boat. i pull on them in every gear.. then there is my buddy derek and his G2 s/c 2.8. good car but i keep up with him til mid second gear then he starts to walk me. it's not a running away or anything. just a slow and steady walk.. a chipped 1.8t and a G2 2.8 put out about the same amount of wtq. and are only 60-70awhp off.. trust me, i've seen the dyno graphs..

also, my buddy just sold hissuperchager to my other buddy because he was tired of chipped GTI's beating the **** out of him. so now he is working on a single turbo 2.8. fully built, standalone, GT42r, andall the goodies to make 500+Awhp.. but this project is taking BIG MONEY!

Interesting... I beat 2 30v 2.8's when all i had was just a chip. and im tip. One of them was a mechanic at the tuning shop where i got chipped (from a stop to about 60mph.) The other one at a 50mph or soroll to 100mph. Both timesI was 1-2 car lengths ahead. Then I beat a 12v but that doesnt count. 2.8 cannot compete with a chipped 1.8t in lower rpms at all. Each time i raced a 30vi was ahead almost instantly, but they do keep up well for sure.

dude its more than $200 to do a custom intercooler, i do know its cheaper, but $200 is unrealisitic, piping is gonna be about $75-100 to have custom fab'd, and the core will be about $250-$350 on ebay, so if an audi tuner has the ***** to test out an ebay intercooler on a low 12 second setup than congrats if he can do it for $500...

and your gonna need a clutch, theres another $750...

seriously dude you need about $3500 in supporting mods, that does not include the turbo or exhaust..

its unrealistic to get a 1.8 in the low 12's for $3500, i guarantee most all the 1.8 owners on here will agree with me also...

Search on "the $150 fmic"

I've got the 30v, and it's a fantastic car. Only regret now is the tiptronic, I should have gone manual. I was just in a lazy mood when I bought my car. STUPID STUPID! Anyways. I've never driven a 1.8t, but I wouldn't mind having one to mod. No doubt a BT 1.8 would DESTROY a SC 2.8. And they save some money when they have to replace spark plugs, Haha. When it comes down to it, I would rather have the 2.8. It looks better in the engine bay!

Its like this,

If you can get an audi period, that's sweet.
If its a 2.8, that's pretty cool.
If its a 1.8t, and you can afford a few mods, that's ****.
If its a 1.8 and you can afford to BT it, or if its a 2.8 and you can afford to supercharge it, thats friggin awesome.

Most 1.8 owners (like me) will say get a 1.8, and most 2.8 owners will say the 2.8 is fine, and they're both good. So, basically, Happy new year, and get an audi of some flavor, and 2007 will be a great year for you!

very true. stock 2.8 has nothing a chipped 1.8 especially with the human factor involved.

dang... i guess im missing something... or maybe you guys are the ones missing something... im not too sure...

i love 1.8's, i think there awesome cars to mod, but on the flip side, when running a quarter mile (up to 100mph) a stock 2.8 will outrun a chipped, AND CHIPPED ONLY, 1.8......

i already went through this earlier, somebody please correct me if im wrong but a 30v 2.8 runs a 15.1-15.3...

Just a chip in a 1.8t will net you about a 15.3.-15.5....

Its drivers race if you ask me, but a good condition 30v gets up pretty decent for a completely stock vehicle...

now anything after a chip (exhaust, bt, etc..) of course the 30v will get walkedupon and i have no problem admiting that....

but in the meantime, i wanna see someone inArizona with a chipped only 1.8 come race me, just for ***** and giggles, so we can settle this nasty dispute, cuz honestly im kinda getting sick of talking about it, lol, and the only way i will ever lay to rest on the issue is if i get beat by a completely stock 1.8 other than a chip of course.
