Default Rattling speakers

I have a 99 2.8 quattro with the bose system and one of my rear deck speakers rattles when i have a bassy song playing. So i opened it up by lifting up the carpeting it jsut kinda snaps up. But there are no cracks or rips or anything. But the weird thing is, is that when i lifted up this carpeting both speakers started rattling. So i dont know if this means that something around the speakers is rattling around or what. Has anyone had any similar problems or can help me out?

i have the same problem with my rear speakers. i think they are just blown out. I am going to repleace them, but i was told that the bose system is working on different ohm so i ca not just repleace them with another brand like pioneer...i don't know this is true.

yea ive heard this too. But i thought when your speakers are blown they just don't work any more. Because there are no cracks or anything on them. So what do you think you are going to do since they run on different ohms?

Take the speakers out of the housing. Then if possible take the housing out. put some Dyno Matt behind both the housing and the speaken. If it's not blown this will solve your problem. If it is blown well atleast you'll get a little better sound

I had the exact problem. Even when I was taking out my back dash I could hear the rattle, with every little jolt I made. when I got to the speakers it was the cone/dust cap. the factory glue had i guess gotten too dry and the cone seperated from the rest of the speaker. Anyway I used a little super glue and put a little on the other speaker (in the same place) as well. everything works perfect now. sounds like a new system.

so you just put some superglue around the edges of the cone? did you hole it down or how did you get it to hold to the main part of the speaker? Did you hold the cone and the base together after you glued or what?

It was not compleatly detached only about 1/3, so it sat in position perfect just a little glue and it wouldn't vibrate anymore. I didn't have to press on anything it just sat in position and dried.

How do the speaker screens (on the rear deck) come off. I tried to pop em out but it seemd like I was doing something wrong and I didnt want to break them. I have the same rattling problem and its starting to get really annoying.
