Could you be a little more specific other than "this rattle"?? Just get under the car and grab stuff and move it around until you find it. Could be an exhuast heat shield. Its also helpful if you mention (or put in your signature) your year/engine when asking questions.

The rattle is hard to explain it seems to be coming from the back drivers side, I shake the car outside and cant hear it, only when I drive I can hear it. The car is a 1996 audi a4 2.8

Well thats where your muffler is, so id get under there and start shaking things, or tap around with a rubber mallet. The baffles inside your muffler may have deteriorated with age and thats what you hear.. Hard to say without being there...

Is it rattling or grinding? Is it speed sensitive? Have someone get in the rear seat or trunk when you are driving and try to give some better location of source.

It is a rattle, not a grind. Ill try and get someone to ride in the back. I cant hear it on the highway, just going at lower speeds and on city streets. It is just very annoying.

Take the wheel off the car and check your spring. Look at the first coil on the bottom. They tend to crack due to corrosion and start rattling. It took mine a year to fracture completely where it was obvious something metal and heavy was broken. The noise only occurs over bumpy roads when the suspension unloads and the coil can rattle. Highway; silent.

Also check the brake pads. If it doesn't sound like it's suspension related and it's happening off and on when it wants to, then I think that would be a good spot to check.
