A friend of mine just had his '98 A4 2.8 worked on and the radio is now in safe mode (they disconnected the batt. w/ out the radio code. He has the code but we are having trouble putting it in. any help is much appreciated.

 

What do you need to know/where are you having problem?

 

Is it odd that I disconnected my battery for like 4 days. And had a blown fuse on the hu but when I hooked it all back up it worked with no code?

 

Also I know in my old BMW if you punched the code in wrong like 3 times it would lock you out for a certain amount of time.

 

How do we enter the code?

 

I have an 01 A4 so I don't know if it is the same, so be careful. On mine you have to hold down the DBS and PSCAN simultaneously until numbers appear. Then using ONLY the 1,2,3 and 4 preset buttons you enter the code. When the code is entered, hold down the DBS and PSCAN buttons until the display changes and then you should be good. There is a possibility that trying to do it without doing it exactly right may have locked you out for good. I hope not.

Press button 1 2 times for a 2, press the second button 4 times for a 4, etc ones you have done the above to get into programming code.

If you do it wrong 3 times, it will lock you out for an hour before you can retry.

 

If you look in the radio manual, there is an outline how you should do it.
