Default quick question on wheels size v.s. performance

Hey guys -

I have a 2005 A4 1.8T Quattro and was brainstorming ideas on wheel size for my car. I like the look of a 19' wheel on the B6 - as long as its mild and not all blingy. But then I started thinking about the performance factor. Before I get into this, I have plans for APR Stage II to be installed on my B6 along with full Stasis suspension. I have no doubt that handling and performance will increase greatly with this suspension setup, but will the wheels hinder that at all? Also I live in Iowa, and go to school in Colorado... will the 19's make the ride pretty uncomfortable? With the 18's I will still have a reasonable sidewall so I'm not too worried about comfort but 19's with a nice tire package got me wondering about comfort. Anyway if any of you guys have experience with this please give me your input. I have not fully decided on going with the Stasis suspension set-up, but if i do suspension i will definitely be doing coilovers from the start. Thanks for your input.

If ur into performance, go 17s and drop it, weights not the only issue, rotational mass plays a big part of it.

yea its called unsprung weight (wheels, drive shaft, etc..) way more important in reducing this thaan sprung weight (fenders, hood, etc).

Thanks alot guys - Yeah i thought about the added weight with the 19's. Thats a good thought on the unsprung weight and added rotational mass. I had a feeling the ride would be pretty harsh with 19's, especially with all the driving I do (12,000 and counting since December). If anyone else has any input it would be greatly appreciated. Also, I know this is a redundant question: but do you guys reccomend any nice 18's that look sharp but are reasonably priced? I dont plan on copping out and buying cheapo wheels but i'm also not looking at 1k a piece iForged wheels here.

Just want to point out that unsprung weight and rotational mass... 2 different things. what audiboy was saying, is that with a bigger wheel, the heaviest part of the wheel (the rim) is moved further away from the hub... this requires more torque, to move the mass. Heavy wheels will affect handing, braking, and accelerating... so think long and hard. If you can afford 1000 a wheel, you can get lightweight 19's, but the ride issue is something you will have to feel to choose... You definately get used to a harsh ride, and it doesnt feel so harsh anymore -- my golf had 215/35/18's on it, and I got used to how it rode... it was dropped with eibach springs and bilstein shocks. I agree that 19's look great, but I'd still go 18's on a b6, and I want 17's on my b5.

If you drive a lot and performance get 18's....don't get the 19's. As you can see a prefer the looks over performance now with my audi, as i have 19's.
