Default Questions for Buying an A4?

Hi I am looking into purchasing an audi a4. I would like to know what should I watch out for in one of these cars. Im going with the 1996-1997 2.8 quatro and a five speed. When should the timing belt be replaced? How hard is it to do a clutch on these cars? Overall comments are welcome. Whats an average price for one of these cars with under 90,000 miles on it?

ya then a 2..8 will be fine, its more reliable. drive the car around and make sure eveyr thing feels good to u. timing belt on a 1.8 is about every 60-70k miles so maybe a few more on a 2.8 but dont quote me on that one. if u have some good mechinacal skills and ur confident then u can do a clutch its about a 6-9 hr job. have no clue about price sorry

Yeah I have done clutches before. Im not worried about that. How much is it going to cost me for a dealership to put in a timing belt and a waterpump on the 2.8?

You have a valid point. I would be doing this myself if I was not in school. So I would buy the car and have the timing belt done because I do not have the time to install a tb and water pump. That is why I asked.

Sorry. This car will be the ony car i own......for now. I have a weekend jeep. 95 Cherokee with a 3inch superlift, 32 incher super swampers, detriot locker in rear. 4.56s front and rear. Other stuff too. Clarification the audi is my daily driver but I use it to get from school to home on weekends to work. This car is my 19th birthday present. The only other german car I have owned is a 1987 bmw 325is. It had no rust what so ever. Never driven in snow or the rain. Fun car. But I blew the tranny (five speed getrag). I had a spec stage two clutch in it. Tranny did not like that clutch and my driving. But yeah im buying an a4 soon so ill keep you posted.
