questions about noises my 96 fwd is making
hi all.
I have a 96 a4 2.8 fwd and when i go over a bump i get weird noise. sounds like air is being let out. and a weird grinding noise from the front. hopefully it is not the control arms. if so. how hard are the control arms to replace? can it be a diy job? and will dealers fix the control arms under the recall? and how hard is it change the strut mounts on the back? i hate noises and all of this might cause me to change every suspension peice that money and difficulty level allows lol.
thanks in advance for all the help
P.S awsome and informative board

RE: questions about noises my 96 fwd is making
Welcome to the forum. Lots of hepful people here, but we will need some more information on what the sounds are like.
First search the archives, as some of your questions may have been previously addressed.
Squeeking (like baloons being rubbed together) when you slowly go over bumps is conrol arm bushings.
Clunking is more serious control arm/tie rod end issues.
Clicking, esp when you turn is likely cv joint
Grinding noise is likely a wheel bearing.
Everything is a DIY job. it just depends on your access to tools, mechanical ability and information
