Default QuestionMounting an Aftermarket body kit (pics)

Hello,
I have an 1997 Audi A4 B5. I recently received a bumper from another company with a package deal a couple of my friends set up. Now I had a question with the install and if anyone would know that would be you guys. So on the back side of the bumper there is no brackets or anything to physically attach the bumper to the car its self. All I can find to use is the flanges on either side of the bumper next the the wheel well were you would find the torx screws. If you had any information on installing an after market bumper could you let me know.

Here are some photos

As stated you need to remove the bar and remount it on the car the line up the new bumper and see if it lines up right to the car making fitting for the side of the bumper to mount.

If you are going to use the jet covers cut them now and make sure they fit right.

Once you are happy with the fit you will have to bond the bumper to the iron on the car this way you will be able to line in up before the bonding glue goes off (use tape to hold it all in place).

Leave over night so you get a good bond then you should be able to bolt off like a normal bumper.

Another little tip once you are done is to use expanding foam around the bar to give the bumper a solid feel and then trim off the excess once the foam goes off with a knife.

Similar setup to my back bumper.

Thanks that helps alot, now i know im on the right track, but what puzzles me is how to physically mount the existing metal bumper into my aftermarket one. This bonding adhesive you speak of is that for use on fiberglass aswell? It doesent seem like it would hold very well, is there allso another way to attache the bumper for a more rigid tuch.

Most body shop will know what I'm talking of and good stockist of car parts should have this, over here we call it Tiger seal and trust me when it goes off it strong as hell. Make sure when you use it you have some white sprit to clean of any residue when you mount it.

Sorry i didnt respond We had power outages all over the North East. So yeah my bud and i got the Iron Bumper out of the stock one, mounted it on the car and begain fitting the new fiberglass bumper on. (www.visionautodynamics.com) Everything fits nicely now. So what im going to do is get it nice and snug, drill my holes in the wheel wells and then get the bumper painted. Ill then install it with that adheasive you are talking about then everything should go nicely. If you have any other input please let me know.

Again sorry not responding

And I have another question now. When i got the Front bumper i got some side skirts to clean up the lines. here is a photo of the back of them.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...6/P1010024.jpg
Now my question is when installing them do i need to remove the plastic piece that lines/covers the sill of the door so basically they will sit on the metal sill and the ends of the skirts will wrap around into the wheel wells. If that doesent make sence let me know and ill take some more pictures to show you what i mean. But thanks for the help on the front.

I would loose the bumper mesh as it looks crap mate but the install looking good. Personally though I would bond the bumper on first that way you can fix any problems before you paint it not a good idea to do it the other way.

Side skirts have two options,

First for both options test fit them up first and trim to fit.

Option 1 screw them to the side of the wheel wells and use double sided exterior tape to mount them.

Option 2 screws the side as above and use the bonding sealant holding them in place with tape.

Remember to paint them first before bonding them on.

Yeah i was skeptical about the mesh but i think im going to keep it till i get some better stuff, i need to protect that radiator. And I did what you said on the skirts and it worked nicely. Thanks.

Now about painting How much paint would i need to cover the Side skirts and the Front bumper. Im having the body shop at my school paint the car, ( I go to a tech school) My friend who has been working with me on the project is going to be the painter. So I dont want to buy to much. Allos i need to paint the right front fender too. So these 4 things Each of the skirts, Front bumper, and the Fender. Let me know soon thanks.

Sorry here is a photo of what i got so far
