My clutch grabs pretty close to the top, as is the case with most Audis I've driven. If your clutch grabs in the middle or close to the bottom, you may have a problem.

Haha thats so ghetto.... i made my own clutch stop too, its adjustable so i can fine tune it.... used a U shaaped bracket i found in the plumbing section at home depot with 3 holes... 2 on the side 1 on the bottom and clamped it to the clutch pedal

ORIGINAL: David_K

the throwout bearing has to be replaced when the clutch is replaced other wise it wont fit right. heres how i fixed the problem your having. i got a 2x4 and cut it to about 4" long and taped it behind the clutch pedal right above where the clutch pedal makes a bend. i used electrical tape to secure it. and it will make your shifts faster.

almost all audi clutches feel this way. I drove pleanty of audis (was a porter at audi dealer) and it seemed like every clutch engaged far fromthe floor board. I used to think the same thing when i bought an a4. I now have a southbend stage 2 clutch and amco lightweight flywheel and it still feels the same way but engages alittle lower but still is noticable, no worries

Recently purchased a 97 2.8 Q. My clutch grabs in a similiarly high spot but engages just fine.

What I've noticed though is that the pedal seems really stiff. Can anyone tell me if that's typical?

Default 2x4??!!

Don't do that to your audi that just sounds so hacky!! my clutch feels the same way and I have no problem getting through the gears. plus theres no reason to be slamming gears in these cars once they are engaged they move good!!
