Default Question about ECU swapping.

I have a chance to buy an already chipped ECU with an APR chip. Ive always been curious about this though cause I have no idea if this affects anything. Also, the guy thats selling it is claiming 206hp which leads me to believe that he is using 93 octane... and I have no way of getting my hands on that type of fuel. Does it even matter?

Are the any drawbacks? Any Positive things about it besides having a spare ECU?

ALso.... His car is EXACTLY the same as mine. 2000 Audi A4 1.8t, quattro, 5 speed... so Im sure its compatible but Im not sure.

I dont know if this makes a difference, but he has a picture of the ECU and it has a VW symbol on it. Like i said, I dont know if it makes a difference.

EvilA4, welcome to the forums. Hope you like it here. To make sure the ECU is compatible, compare the part numbers. As for the fuel question, you should always run at least 93 octane fuel in your A4. What kind of fuel have you been running in it?

Sorry, misread that. 91 is the typical high octane. My bad. I meant to say that 91 is the least you should be running. Sunoco offers a 94 that I run most of the time. Problem is when 91 is $2.00 a gallon the 94 is $2.11 or so. Do you know what your engine code is? I have a 2000 A4 Avant Quattro 1.8t. What color is yours?

WOW... where do you live!!!! LOL

91 in my area is $2.25 at least. If I could find 94 for that... I would run it ALL THE TIME! The only time I say 93 octane gas was at a station at Infineon Raceway.. and i think that was about $4 a gallon.

Im about to check my ECU to see what the codes are... I hope I can find it.
My car is Santorin Blue .. or so its called. Ill post a pic when I get her dropped. I got excited when I first got her, threw on 18" rims and it looks a little goofy.

Indianapolis. I think 94 was $2.14 last week when I filler up. It costs me about as much to fill up my tank as it does to fill the 23 (I think) gallon tank in our minivan! What kind of sspension are you planning on putting on it? Any other mods yet?

Im in Cupertino myself. I found out that this ECU is EXACTLY like mine... Im pretty excited!

I used to have a K&N drop in but that was very bad for my car. It took out EVERY sensor in the vicinity, which cost me $600. So everything is stock besides the tires and rims. Soon this ECU!

I originally wanted to drop about 1.5 inch with the EIBACH pro kit but I think it would look better with Neuspeed Race Spring that drop it 2.0 inch all the way around with Bilsteins shocks. I heard thats a good set up... but I dont have the money for that right now as I cant do it myself, I dont know how. I dont know if thats too low but even then... there would still be a 1 inch space between the wheel well and the tire itself.

I was actually thinking about getting the avant version and making a REAL RS4... but this came along and I had to get it.

I thought I would post a pic of my car for the forums to see. Soon, Ill have a Kamei grill... which is super clean.

As for the ECU, Im in somewhat of a bidding war with someone else. Kinda sucks.

Also, the seller mentioned he had it from 2001-2003... should I skip on this one? I mean, thats a long time...could a chip fail after a certain number of miles? Just curious.

Heres my lil ride.
