Pros and cons to an a4 vs. an a6
hello everyone, i'm new to audi's and am going to purchase one very soon as soon as i find one that i want, but i'm curious as to what are the pros and cons between the a4 and the a6. i definitely plan on going with the quattro, and at least a 1999.5, but are there any specific problems that either car is prone to? especially major things like transmission and engine problems? the one i end up getting will probably have around 100k miles on it, so what can i expect to have to replace and/or fix soon? thanks a lot for all your anticipated help.

RE: Pros and cons to an a4 vs. an a6
ive never driven an a6 so i cant help too much on that, but my guess would be that the a4 is gonne feel more nimble and its definately gonna be lighter, while you still maintain four doors, although not as much rear passenger room. they both can be decently modded if you get the 2.7t or the 1.8t.... the turbo models will most likely have more maintenance that needs to be done, and around 100k that turbo is on its last breath so you would have to expect to replace that. the control arms are known to go bad as well around 80k-120k, you can tell what kind of shape there in by going over a speed bump at 3-5 miles an hour and see if they make any rubbing/squeeking noise.

RE: Pros and cons to an a4 vs. an a6
I drive an 03' A4 Quattro 3.0 Tip, I hadit in the shop and they let me use their 07' A6 for the week. I honestly would rather have my 03' A4. The only things I liked about the A6 was the 6 speed tip, and the 3.2 liter SFI engine. That thing had some ***** for a big heavy car. It felt like a boat compared to my A4. It's definately not worth the $50,000 sticker price, it didn't even have HID's, onceyou have those you definately don't want toback to standard halogens. If you are like me and rarelydrive more than yourself and one passenger, I would go with the A4. If youare a family man and need the room, go for theA6. The 07' A6got the same or better mileage than mysmaller less powerfulA4. I think that has something to do with the 6 speed and the direct injection system. As for the miles, yikes, not sure I would want to step into a 100,000 mile audi right out of the gates, unless ithasall maint. records and was owned by a little old lady. I don't plan on ever owning one that doesn't have at least a CPO warranty. Good luck.
