Hi:

I recently had my 60K service done on my 2002 A4 1.8T. The dealer - Riverside Audi in NJ- said that the valve covers were leaking oil and they replaced them all and included a labor charge of $880. It seems a little expensive to me.

What kind of price could I have expected from an indpenedent mechanic (in Northern NJ)?

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in Northeastern NJ. I live in Hoboken, NJ?

If all you need to do is replace the valve cover gasket do it yourself. the gasket costs like $25 and it only takes 30-45 minutes. way easy.

 

Its a cheap hassle free replacement. Don't go to a shop for something like that they'll just over charge you. DIY

 

A labor charge that high is probably for a camshaft adjuster gasket.
