Default PO118, PO171 Codes

...I was finally happy to be rid of the CEL. The spark plug replacement seemed to have cured the misfire in cylinder 2. Then 3 days ago, right around the time I began to hear that weird noise, it pops up again.

I stopped by my local garage on the way home today (Central NJ, F&M Tire) to ask if they could pull the error codes for me and they were kind enough to squeeze me in with no notice. They came back with a PO118 and a PO171.

PO118 Engine Coolant Temp (ECT) Circuit High Input
PO171 System Adaptive Fuel Too Lean (Bank 1)

Hmm. So what is that noise? It's only audible in the cabin at about 35mph plus and doesn't depend on the rpm of the tires. Perhaps it might be related to my recent run in with a furry animal at 60 mph the other night (votex body kit needs some tlc). Whatever the noise was, it got easier to hear over the last couple of days. Maybe it is related to my recent air box adventure, a hose leak.

I came home and started Blue up so I could put my head under the hood. I heard it.

It's a hole in the hose circled below. See that little dot in the center of teh black hose? I figure this is something I can fix myself but didn't check it out further because the engine was hot. If anyone has any advice to offer, thanks. As of now, I intend to head to local autostore and see if I can't get a replacement.

That's just a vacuum hose. You can try just cutting the end off and sticking it back on but I would replace it. The engine coolant temp sensors are known to fail.

Thanks for the help. I was thinking of duct tape to get to the auto store then buying a hose there to replace it. I don't want to cut it for the trip because it already appears too short. I didn't really look into it enough since the engine was hot.

Anyway, I plan on waking up tomorrow morning and taking care of this first thing. I hope this is a hose that the local chain store carries...

Thanks again.

it is the vac line for your DV you have to fix that, i would replace it, when i put in my bov (i know don't say it) the hose was frade all the way down..
i know it is a pain, but pull off the belly pan, to get to the DV, it is almost imposable to get to it from above, unless you pull the air box out, and still then it is a b**ch.....

good luck,

E

Replaced the hose a couple days ago. I have only drove about 20 miles since doing so and the CEL is still on. I'm thinking that maybe it needs a bit of time before it goes off. I don't quite understand how the electronics work in these cars yet but does that sound reasonable or should the light have gone off pretty quickly if that was the issue?

BTW, the noise I was hearing at about 35mph is gone.

Thanks.

Started up the car for the 'ol lunch trip today and the light went off. For anyone that has the same issue in the future, I figure I drove about 40 miles before it went off.
