Default Please Help! Tiptronic problem....

Hi, I have a 98 a4 2.8 quattro. I bought it pretty reciently and it has 107k miles. I was driving last night and pulled into a gas station and fueled up. When I left, I tried putting the car into tiptronic and it was shifting by its self and didnt matter if I pushed the shifter up or down. So pretty much, the car is still driving fine and all except that it wont go into tiptronic....... Can anyone help me out? If you need any more info just let me know..... Thanks

There is a magnetic link reads when you shift. If often gets loose and falls off. There are a number of threads on this in the last year, but you will have to search.

Pretty sure the magnet does exactly what David9999 is saying, but i dont think that would cause what you are describing if its bad. Sounds to me like something else might be a problem-like whatever switch or sensor thatreads that you are actually IN tip mode is bad.

Do you think I should just take it to an audi specialist? Do you have any idea what it would cost orwhat the mechanic would have to do to find out? Im guessing just hook up the computer...

just hooking up the VAG is about $100.....i searched around for your question and the magnet was the most common problem, altho it could be a bad sensor......i live in marin and know a guy who will let you use a VAG.....where do you live?

Hi guys. I have the same problem. I was at Audi dealer to repair my oil leaking and after i took the car, my tiptronic does not work. I am use it every day but now i can't. When did i shift -, nothing happend. When +, transmission set lower gear. I am put car back to the dealer, because i am sure, they did that. They change some wires or connector in recall. Today they caled me back to pick up my car and said, there is broken "shifter". Repair ill cost 600$.
Here is what they give me like invoice or something:

Needs tiptronic ribbon/printed circuit board and guide, 600 to replace.
Parts were glued together and fell apart on removal and in center console - will notwork at all now.

LOL, i think, they broke and tryd to fixed. If anybody know, whats the part name or code, let me know or post here. I can changed by my self to savefew hundreds.
