Default Pinch bolt took out my axle bearing carrier.

Well, I've been fighting this bolt for about a week now while changing my control arms. It's the notorious upper control arm pinch bolt. After countless hours soaking in pb blaster, air-hammering, breaker-barring (I twisted the head off of the bolt), I took it to my girlfriends dads shop. He restores old cars (completely builds frames and everything, too) so I figured if anyone could get it out, he could.

First we put it in a vice, and he tried to punch it out, but it wouldn't budge. Next he pulls out the torch (something REALLY hot, I don't know what it was), and heats it up, then uses the punch. It got about 7/8th's of the way, then we see it fly across the room. I go to look at it, and it has part of the axle bearing carrier attached to it.

Everywhere that I've seen it for sale call it the axle bearing carrier. The part that broke off holds the upper control arms... I don't know where steering arm would come in?

Whatever is connected to the outer tie rod end is labled as the steering arm, thats what the audi parts dept. will call it also.

Ohhhhh okay. So the wheel bearing is mounted in the steering arm? lol, that sounds funky. Thanks for the clarification though.

You wouldn't happen to know of any Audi dismantlers in Sac where I could get one of these assemblies cheap, would you? I'm about 2.5 hours north of you.

No the wheel bearing is pressed into the hub which is bolted to the steering arm. [&:]
I don't know exactly but there is a good amount of wrecked audi's in junkyards in sac, i bought a steering column for my buddies A6 a while back from a little Mexi chop shop. LOL.

Are you sure?

Where does it bolt?

I'm not questioning you, I'm just curious where it bolts in. It doesn't make any sense to me!

thanks man.

OH, my bad, the B6 has a bolt in wheel bearing and hub assembly, the B5 is pressed in so you would be correct.
