Performance Advice
I've always liked Audis (use to have an A6 4.2 company car w/ sport config. which rocked). Recently, I wanted to buy my wife (and myself) a car (used) and took a hard look at the MINI Cooper S (for the performance and value). She wants an A4 (2002+). I've found a couple in my price range (both 1.8T and 3.0), but I have a feeling it is going to need a little help in the performance department. An S4 is not an option since we both want the newer body style. Please help.
The base model A4s don't do it for me, but there are limits to what we can spend. Should we consider a 1.8T with low miles and trick it out? Or would a 3.0 with some tuning be a safe option. I can't seem to find any US Audi tuners online, but it could be user error. Any advice would be appreciated.

David9999 (or anyone else),
Any idea about mileage on a motor vs. a larger turbo. I had a miata years ago, and the shop suggested not installing a turbo on it b/c of the number of miles. My understanding is there was a concern about the level of compression, but any ideas for an A4. It would be a shame to install a larger turbo and end up buying an engine.
Also, what about the drive train. I was at a dealer invite party for the Petit Le Mans a couple years back where Derek Bell jumped in the SCCA WC S4 and did a few standing starts with all tires ripping. Quite awesome, but when he jumped out of the car, he said something like "don't do that in your quattro, or you'll melt your transmission". Any risk with an upgraded turbo/chip/exhaust?
One last thing, if I was going to upgrade suspension parts (such as coilovers, or other performance parts), is it woth it to buy an A4 with the sport package? Is there a way to find out what parts are included in this package? Could I save the $$$ and immediately go straight to the good stuff...
Thank you for the advice...

I've never heard of a k04 causing any problems even on a higher mileage engine. I think doose upgraded his and he has like 120k miles on the clock.
The suspension on a sport package car isn't really that much to brag about. I'd rather go aftermarket myself.

i have the sport suspension and i think it is much better than the stock but if u are going to have to put it in (maening not on the car already) i would go aftermarket b/c u can get much better tahn the sport. Also if u have quattro and a great suspenison holy carp will those corners be fun![sm=gears.gif]
