You shouldnt speak.... Stock turbo's normaly last 100k+ miles and the only unreliable part about that is NOTHING... and you are a noob.
If anything is unreliable on a 1.8t, it is the same common parts that fail on a 2.8, other than vaccuum/boost hoses/lines that can need replacing after 80k miles... 1.8t's arent as unreliable as a lot of 2.8/3.0-ers think, or would like to think.
The reason you may think they are unreliable is because you hear a lot about these guys around here having problems with their BT setup's, once you go BT, its not fair to compare those cars to the NA's. But a stock-ish 1.8t compared to a 2.8 have very similar reliability overall.

that is why i compared the BT setups to s S/c set up not stock to stock.
Like i said apples and oranges ach suits a different type of person.
