very nice work, but for 800$ in supplies and the labor, id rather pay the 1200$... looks really good though
The $800 was supplies only, I didn't count my time. It all depends what you like, I like to be able to say "I did it myself", that's what's nice about a high mileage car, if you screw up it's not the end of the world. Also I doubt the shops will prepare the plastic to the extent I did. The shop where I bought my paint also supplies the body shops in town and a lot of the things I bought (plastic sealer, flex agent, etc...) he had never even sold before, which tells me that the body shops here don't even use the proper plastic preperation products. That's why I figured I'd do it myself. If it turns out crappy, I can still take it to the body shop then (and waste another $1200!!!).

Check out the link I posted earlier, it has great instructions on painting plastic. One of the reasons that the supplies are so expensive is because the products come in rather large quantities (I have tons of reducer, activator left). As far as a good place to paint, if you have access to a garage, you can put up a temporary paint booth anywhere. I did mine with a bunch of hooks I screwed in the ceiling and five 10X12 plastic tarps (4 walls and the floor). I can put it up and take it down in 15 minutes and it give me a nice, clean 9.5'X9.5' paint booth.
