Default painting lowers...

i wanted to get my lowers painted the same color as my car which is silver... but my friend said that the paint may flake off because the rubber is soft.. is that true?

I got a quote of $600 for painting the side pieces as well as the back (since i didn't need the front painted). Does that sound reasonable at all? I was told that the paint wouldn't stay on well due to the type of plastic used on the moldings. Would it be better to just go out and get factory S4 skirts and back lip? I wouldn't know where to obtain these though. any help would be appreciated. Thanks. BTW this is on a B5.

$600 seems overpriced. Get another quote.

$600!!!! You've got to be kidding me! I did mine with Dupont's Base Coat/Clear Coat (one of the best paints on the market) and supplies cost me under $100. So, that means over $500 for labor. I've had mine painted for over a month and the paint is holding up fine. No fading or chipping. I would recommend doing it yourself. I'm no professional painter, but my lowers look like they came painted. You probably don't have access to a spray gun or a paint booth so i would just get color match spray paint. I think Dupont makes this (it seems like people have recommended paintscratch.com ???). Anyway buy the base coat and the clear coat and a can of Dupont's "PlaStick." Mask off your car, spray a nice coat of the PlaStick, come back with three coats of color, and then three coats of clear and your done (plus you saved $500)
