Default Our friend, the Check Engine Light

I'm a pick-up man, myself, but I married a 2001 A4 1.8T Quattro.

Basically, it's been the normal (un)reliability issues that everyone else complains about . . . but now she's getting a CEL. I cleared it--hey, sometimes that works--and about two days later got it again. Scanned for the code: P0411 . . . Secondary Air Injection System Flow Improper.

My guess is the #1 02-Sensor. But it IS just a guess, and I'd like to know if anyone else has had this particular code, and the best way to fix it. Please and Thank You.

Doesnt sound like the Sensor. I replaced that but the code i was given was "Exhaust not warm"

Do you have any symptomes?

From a previous post of same problem:

"There's a vac line that runs from under the intake manifold. Around the back of the engine to the Combi valve (secondary air injection) - it's a round, chrome topped valve on the back left (passenger side)of the engine - you can't miss it. Check this hose. I'd be willing to bet it's got a leak. Replace it and you should be good to go. "

The secondary air system pumps air into the exhaust to help with emmissions. Most of those codes I've seen are either the pump itself, or the valve that's between the the SAS and the exhaust. Check that valve, if there are carbon deposits on the SAS side, it's bad.

Thanks, guys . . . I DID try to use the search system before I asked, but apparently I'm too much of a technophobe.

There are NO other symptoms, as far as we can tell. Last problem was the air conditioning compressor replaced about 4 months ago.

Um . . .Doose?

Define "bad", if you would . . . or do I not want to know?

Just that it is allowing exhuast back into the SAS. It's only suppose to allow air to flow into the exhuast.
