ok let's talk about turbo's #2!!
i just saw johhnyb's thread and i have a similar question. i might be sidelining the car for a little while to go BT. i was initially thinkin t3/t4 60 trim. but i wana do some research first to pick the best one for my goals. i want it to be as reliable as possible, make somewhere in the 300-350 whp range, and i wana find out how much each system will end up costing me. any help or links you guys know that would help me out would be great. thanks

jeff us tge t3/t4 guy and he made like 330ish and a gt2871rs would be about the same, with a t3 you will have to go standalone where with a 2871 you have a few options

For the power range you are looking atand drivabilty i would suggest the ball bearing. But yes it will cost a bit more. Float bearing turbos work with oil pressure and take more time to spool , if you have the money then go for ball bearing but if you dont mind loosing a bit of drivabiltyand dont want spend that much money then go for the float/journal bearing turbo.Nothing wrong with them.

wuts the order of BT from smallest to largest?
ko4 (not really BT, but o well)
gt28rs
gt2871r
t3/t4
gt3071r
gt35r
is that right? and does anyone know what kinda numbers each puts out? and which one's will require me to getstronger rods?

and no, you don't have to go standalone if you do a T3/T4 setup. there are lots of options, CTapp is the main one. or you can easily tweak a similar BT file..

these are going to be numbers at the crank, so you can figure in fwd or awd from this
gt28rs - 350 hp
gt2871r - 400 hp
gt3071r - 450 hp
gt35r - 600 hp
these numbers are also with good tunes on pump. with great tunes you can see a bit more depending on race gas.. and the turbo doesn't determine when to upgrade rods, the power output does. if you're seeing 400 hp at the crank then you're at the edge of snapping a rod

The t3/t4 you would want is a 50trim with a .48 turbine. This will give you good spool and will easily get you to your power goals. This turbo works well with the 1.8t engine and can be run in upwards of 30psi and is rated for ~450 hp. If you still want more power you can just swap out the turbine to a .63 and give up some spool for more top end power. These turbos (garrett) can be had for around $600 and dont need coolent lines.
