oil pan removal and reinstallation
Hi, I have a 1996 A4 2.8 V6 and I went over a speed hump (i think this speed speed hump was made for SUV's) and I cracked my oil pan. I'm a complete amateur when it comes to working on cars but i easily removed the oil pan and had a buddy weld the crack shut. I have purchased a new lower oil pan gasket from the audi agents. I would like to know from people who have reinstalled their oil pans if there is anything special i need to do when installing the pan like using any sealants for the gasket or screws. Also is it necessary to torque the screws or can i just make them tight with a normal hex wrench?
Thanks,
Jacques

RE: oil pan removal and reinstallation
Thanks for the reply. The 2.8 oil pan is not obscured by the cross member like the 1.8. I have already removed the oil pan and had it repaired, it was pretty easy to remove, I only needed to unbolt the sway bar to get access to some of the oil pan bolts. I just need to know if i need any sealants or anything is required when rebolting the oil pan back on to the car.

If you have a gasket that is all you need. The white audi sealant is used in place of a gasket. There is a torque spec but i dont remember off the top of my head. Maybe 80 inch pounds. Its not very high.
