OFFICIAL: eBay Short shifter installed!
First off I would like to say I regret putting off installing this.
To install the short shifter I used this AudiWorld writeup.
I followed it basically to a T until 10b. The bolts mentioned were NOT torx but they were 5mm allem bolts.

Once I removed those allen bolts and everything else mentioned I took out the asssembly.
Thats where I went a little off from what the directions said. I just took off the small circlip for the push down reverse spring. Then I removed the larger one holding the plastic ball in palce and removed the whole shifter rod and poped the ball out.

Fast forward here... I couldn't for the life of me get the mentioned clips in step 20. I just left those alone and it seems fine for now.

I used the slot with the largest reduction. I used blue lock tite on the bolt holding the fork to the shifter rod.
After that I positioned it in the can and put everything back together. It was a real bitch to pull the housing back up to put in the 4 10mm nuts. Also, the rectangle washer and bolt combo was also a bitch to install. I used a little ducttape to hold the bolt in place with the washer.Once those were in the install was a breeze.
The whole process took 3 hours. I know... I took my time, and it was a learning experience. To be honest, this has been the best $42 I have ever spent on a car. The shifts are FIRM, percise and REALLY SHORT! This also eliminated a little bit of slop in the stock shifter.
If you're thinking about buying one stop and just get it already!
