Is Octane Boost good or bad?

RE: Is Octane Boost good or bad?
At some point it is bad.
Higher octane makes a hotter burn in the cylinder. What's too hot? I don't know. If you use octane boost added to your tank, the actual rendered octane depends on what octane gas is in the tank, how much is in the tank and what the "boost" is that your adding to it.
There is a point where you're creating more heat than the engine components are designed for. Then the engine will fail sooner.
Run Sunoco 94 octane. You won't go wrong or find some 95 or 96 octane race gas and see if you really think that it's worth the performance gain.
I'd stay away from the octane boost. Too many variables.
PS - I'm not a professional mechanic but I have been an engineer for the past 25 years.

.some brands are good and some are crap.i notice some major increase when i use the brand +104 in my 2.8,but the same company's +108 turbo formula does not work well at all on my car.chevron techron is also good, and in my opinion chevron gas is the best there is around.i've done many tests on my 85 golf and they are safe, just mix correctly.

actually it is better for your car because it is lowering the chance of preignition of weaker carbon chains in the gas.sounds smart huh but i just watched it on the history channels modern marvels and they talked about how they came up with the octane rating by volitivity of the gas before actual spark plug ignition.

I didn't think higher octane burned any hotter... just LONGER... but I guess I wouldn't know.
Anyways, using octane boost is pointless... if you find yourself often searching for a gas station that sells premium (maybe you live somewhere far far away from civilization) then it is good to keep some octane boost with you, just to bring the octane up to over 91... but yeah, don't use it if you can already buy 91+
