RE: OBD II Code Reader
go to www.ross-tech.com to see what VAG is all about.
Yes its worth the extra money. Well i dont know if its extra money at all... The cable and limited use vagcom software from rosstech is about $70 i think. You can get the full version software for free if you look in the right places, but thats just what i heard

RE: OBD II Code Reader
There are VAG code readers that are inexpensive. They read VW and Audi specific codes.

I bid $29.99 for this reader.

They are totally different, like comparing a transistor radio with an LCD TV. Both receive electromagnetic signals, but do totally different stuff.
Get the VAG-COM, or either (1) NEVER touch your car, or (2) get rid of it. No VW/Audi owner should be without a VAG-COM. It will pay for itself over and over just in reading your codes. Figure you're going to pay the dealer $85+ just to read your codes when the CEL comes on. Plus, you can solve a lot of your own problems. Generic OBD code readers look at the engine module. VAG-COM allows you to access ALL controllers. I fixed my A/C by clearing a code and saved at least as much as the VAG-COM cost.
Plus you can reprogram the car to do stuff like roll down and up your windows with your key remote.
Lastly, get the real thing.
