Default noob needing extensive indepth info on chips

I apologies in advance if this is an ignorant question.

iv been reading the forums alot and have come to the conclusion that adding a chip is the easiest and best bang for buck mod an any a4 turbo.

My question is that could someone explain IN DETAIL on how exactly hp increases are gained simply though a chip. This implies to me that Audi is not using the full potential of their motors and that their engines may even be detuned.

What kind of gain can I expect through different chips and which one has the greatest hp increase? Are these gains exclusively through the chip alone and on nothing but a stock a4 turbo?

Are gains seen across the dyno chart or at certain points in the power band?

the chips add more boost fuel and timing. the stock boost is 7 psi and it ups it to 18 psi...i have used giac for the k03 and k04 and just switched to upsolute and id have to say they blow them out of the water plus they are only 375 shipped instead of 500 bux. u can also get it custom tuned for another 150. this is only really benificial if u have a custom setup or if u have an 01 like myself bc companies didnt make any variations of chip files for that year

im sorry if i came out to be lazy, but have u tried searching the fourms?! its a pain in the *** when every reply comes up that contains any of the words you've searched for.

anyways... so stock boost is increased from 7psi to 18psi?! that is an extreme change, does this effect any relibility issues with the car? How are the A/F ratios kept under control? I would think you would need new injectors, and fuel pump to compensate for the extra pounds of boost.

No you don't NEED new injectors unless you upgrade to a larger turbo. The chip remaps the air/fuel map. I've never heard of anyones engine blowing up or dying due to a chip. You will probably need a new diverter valve though to handle the extra boost pressure.
