2001 1.8T quattro tip

Lately my car has been making wierd noises. It sounds like a slight rumble coming from the rear of the car, I am assuming it is the rear differential.

It only makes the noise when the car is in drive or reverse and I am at a complete stop. (I hear it when I am stopped at a light). I can put the car in neutral or park and it will stop.

Anyone ever experienced this or have an ideas?

 

If it happens at a complete stop its not the rear differentail. Or any differential . Most like they noise is coming from the transmision. Have the fluid level checked.
