Newbie needs advise on his new 98 2.8 Quattro ...
So I just got my 98 quattro, and the first thing I see is the massive amount of brake dust that gets on my front wheels.
So I now they make low-dust pads ... but I come to you, my all-knowing Audi fans.
One look on eBay and I see that I'm looking for new rotors too.
So, what brand of rotors & pads ??
Slotted and cross-drilled I think is the minimum.
Zimmerman rotors ??
Is there a better place than Ebay to get them for a good price ?
Once I know what to get, I can go for price.
Then, I'll look for some 17" wheels and tires ... (Not really wanting to go much bigger than that.)

I would do either the slotted or cross-drilled as well. I've got cross-drilled on both front and back of my 1.8t. Another suggestion is to get the dust guards. They go on the front in between the wheel and the rotor and keep the dust contained so that it doesn't end up all over your wheel.

Slotted rotors will only add to your dust problem. I have mintex pads right now and they create a massive amount of dust. I just bought some hawk pads, because people say they are lower dust.

How about these for rotors ???
Ebay
And these for pads ...
Ebay
I know that Jestnomen said not to get the slotted rotors, but please keep in mind that I live near Seattle and would benifit from having the slotted rotors as I'm told that they get rid of the water fast.
Adding the extreamly low dust pads will help too I hope.
If that won't do it, I'll have to get the sheilds. (trying to avoid that)
Thx for the input guys !!

I would not buy those rotors. Most of the no-name rotors have very cheap steel and will last you a couple years max. Brembo, Zimmerman are decent, and fairly inexpensive - though not as cheap as that ebay auction. Slotted rotors are not practical unless you are tracking your car and need to shred off the top layer of your pad to get a new surface. High racing temps glaze the pad and the slots remove it. Normal driving will rarely, if ever, glaze your pads like that. They do not really help move water. The brake shields are a better option in preventing water fade. Keep in mind slotted rotors drastically add to brake dust problems.
Hawk brake pads are good pads, and the low dust carbon compound ones seem to have a good rep.

First of all, welcome to the forum Quattro! And congrats on the new car, too!
As far as brakes are concerned, I'd agree with brrman. Secondly you can find pads and parts at ECS.
Here's the link: ECS Tuning
They have a wide selection and their prices are very competitive. I don't know about any OE rotors that aren't slotted though. You'll have to ask. Needless to say, the brake dust issue is always there; slotted or not, you'll have dust. The change in pads makes an improvement overall.

Cool guys ... thx for the input !!
So I know I don't want slotted for sure ... whew !
So Brembo or Zimmerman ? (rotors)
As far as pad go, I think I would like to stay with sensors ... (so I think so far)
PBR or Hawk ?? (Lowest dust, performance pads)
I'm really narrowing this down with your help ... I'm glad I didn't go with the slotted rotors now !!
