Default new recall for 96-97 audi

If you haven't got a letter yet............

I got a letter in the mail today from AUDI north america.

They have recalled the faulty ignition switch in the steering column on 1996-1997 AUDI vehicles.

I have read a number of posts where this has failed, causing starting issues, issues with wipers, etc.

Audi will replace the switch fro free at any dealer. If you have already replaced it, audi will re-imburse you if you can provide receipts proving the repair was done.

Nice that even almost 10 years later, they will replace this defect for free. YAY to AUDI!!!!!!!!!

I bought mine from a private owner, and they found me smehow. They probably got the info from the DMV/title agency for our state.

I haven't had any problem with mine either. That doesn't change the fact that it has been recalled, and they will replace it for free to prevent future problems with a known defective part. a number of other people have had this problem.

I received mine in the mail today. I am at least the third owner of this car so they must have used the dmv to find me. I will get it replaced.

I got a letter. I had the ignition switch problem months ago--not really a problem once you realize you just have to turn the key to the proper position yourself (not letting the spring do it) It was annoying though. Awesome that they're fixing it. And I'm also impressed that they were able to find me

Thats awesome! Now, if they would just fix pixelation issues that some of us have! I personally don't but I've seen plenty of them with that issue, but I guess it isn't a major defect that could cause running issues.

Exactly. The reason the switch is recalled is becasue headlights and wipers dont work. If it only affected the radio there would be no recall.

i got the letter in the mail... but i remember that when i first got my car the was a similar recall for the ignition not being grounded properly and may cause the airbag to go off.
